The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning for Frederick, Washington and Carroll Counties in Maryland, and Jefferson County, in West Virginia.
Officials say sleet and freezing rain will continue and increase tonight. Bill Rhoutzhan, supervisor of Frederick County Highway Operations says right now his crews are out pre-treating roads. "Earlier there was a covering of precipitation on the roads in the Gambrill Park area. But we are treating with a light mixture. I would expect the coldest would be up in the mountains, but all of the roads will probably freeze up tonight with the cold air," he said.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
