Frederick County School Board Member Jimmy Reeder says the News Post did not get the numbers right on the vote Wednesday night when members approved their proposed FY 2014 operating budget. "This is just one more reason why I don't get the Frederick News Post. If you can't count to seven, I don't think you should be a reporter," said Reeder.
The News Post reported that board members voted 6-0 Wednesday in favor of the budget.
"The vote was actually 6-1. I was the one against it. In my mind, I think you have to budget with what you know you're going to get. The Frederick County Commissioners told us we were going to get maintenance of effort. I don't budget on wishful thinking," said Reeder.
Speaking on the Morning News Express with Bob Miller, Reeder said his approach is to work with what you get, and what you have, and not with what you wish you had.
The proposed FY 2014 budget, which was approved for the school system totals $548 million dollars. That's 4.8% more than the current spending plan. Officials say it's $15 million dollars above maintenance of effort.
