While Maryland State Highway crews continue their work to complete the $15 million dollar project to widen the Motter Avenue bridge, over Route 15, officials will be opening up a temporary pedestrian walkway in that area on Monday.  "This will be able to accommodate as many pedestrians, particularly during the school rush hours, during the starting and leaving times," said SHA spokesman Dave Buck.  He said the goal is to keep pedestrians and construction workers safe. 

"We are getting into construction season.  We want people to think 'orange,' to think about the construction that will be going on in the next several months, and this is a good way to get folks introduced to it, and to let them know they need to be on the lookout for it this Spring," continued Buck.

The temporary pedestrian bridge will be in place for the next two years.  Officials say when the project is completed the new Motter Avenue bridge will have shoulders and wider sidewalks to better accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists.

Motorists should also be aware that beginning on Monday, weather permitting, crews will begin installing concrete medians on Thomas Johnson Drive that will permanently prevent left turn movements into and out of some business entrances near the Opossumtown Pike intersection.
