Fire officials are investigating a fire that turned deadly on Sunday night in Mt. Airy.
The Frederick County Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting smoke was coming from a house in the 12900 blk. of Moxton Drive at 6:51 pm.
A short time later, rescue crews arrived and saw smoke coming from the attic area.
Fire fighters entered the home and on the second floor, found a bedroom door was closed with soot and smoke stains around the door. The door was opened and smoke escaped the room from a small fire inside. The flames was quickly extinguished.
The bedroom was searched and a woman was found dead. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be performed.
Due to the circumstances of the fire, the Frederick County Fire Investigation Task Force is handling the investigation.
The victim was the only person at home at the time of the fire.
There were working smoke alarms on the second floor of the home.
Damage is estimated at $30,000.
