The National Museum of Civil War Medicine has the following upcoming events:
v The Pry House Field Hospital Museum will remain open all winter long with special hours. Weekends through the end of May, Saturday and Sunday from 11am till 4pm. A donation of $3 per person is suggested.
v The National Museum of Civil War Medicine will be closed on March 31st for Easter Sunday. They will reopen Monday, April 1st

The Frederick County Humane Society is offering the following activities:
v Right now their emergency pet food bank is extremely low on supplies. For the next two months you may drop off pet food and supplies at Copy Doc Business Solutions. They are located at 436 West Patrick Street and their business hours are Monday thru Friday from 7am till 6pm.
v The 2013 Quick Fix for Cats will be held in the months of February and March. This low cost spay/neuter program is being done in cooperation with 15 participating veterinary practices. The Frederick Rescue Mission is holding Operation Closet Cleanout to gather new or used winter wear for those in need. They are in need of coats, hats, boots, scarves, sweaters and blankets. The American Cancer Society is looking for 300,000 adults in the US who want to make a direct impact in the fight against cancer. Cancer Prevention Study-3 will pave the way for future cancer research. Enrollment is taking place in Carroll County and Frederick County during March. PNC and the IRS are offering free tax services and fast access to refunds. The services are being offered at the Bernard W. Brown Community Center, located at 629 North Market Street in Frederick. IRS certified volunteers working with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will provide this service to people who generally earn less than $51,000 a year. You need to bring with you your W-2 form from all employers, interest statements from banks, a copy of last year’s tax returns and other relevant information about income and expenses.
Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to participate in the Historical Society of Frederick County’s second annual Byerly-Rothwell Photography Contest. The contest seeks to encourage individuals to discover local history through the camera’s lens. Possible subjects include, but are not limited to, historic structures, historical objects, places of historical significance, important events, notable individuals, and traditional activities. Cash prizes of up to $150 are awarded to the top three photos in four divisions: Adult-Amateur, Adult-Professional, Student-Primary, and Student-Secondary. A prize for best in show is also awarded to the top overall entry. Photographs entered in the contest will be on display at the Museum of Frederick County History in late summer. The contest is open to those who live or attend school in Frederick County. Each contestant may enter up to three photographs. Deadline for entries is July 31st 2013. Wednesday, March 27th
FCPS invites community based organizations to partner in a Frederick Community Learning Centers project that, pending Maryland Department of Education funding, will operate after-school programs at Crestwood Middle School and West Frederick Middle School. There is a mandatory meeting for applicants from 2pm till 4pm at the FCPS Staff Development Center at 44 West Frederick Street in Walkersville. The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will host Tim Rowland as the seventh of eleven speakers in the year-long Civil War Lecture Series. He will present “Why the Anaconda Plan Would Have Worked” starting at 7pm in the Museum’s Bowman Concert Gallery. There will be a dinner before hand in the Kaylor Atrium starting at 6pm. The Historical Society of Frederick County is pleased to announce The Harry L. Decker Historical Essay Contest, which seeks to inspire fourth grade students to learn more about their county’s history through original research and writing. This year, students are asked to write a 500 word essay on the history of a Frederick County community. An approved list of communities will be provided. The 29th is the deadline and writers of the top six essays will be awarded $100 each.
