James Vanwinkle is wanted for the Mar. 13th robbery of the SunTrust Bank.
A suspect wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Frederick has been apprehended. James Raymond Vanwinkle, 36, was taken into custody in Greenville, South Carolina, and is currently being held in a detention center awaiting extradition.
Frederick Police issued a warrant for Vanwinkle following the March 13th robbery of the SunTrust bank at 1700 Rosemont Avenue.
According to authorities, a suspect entered the bank shortly before 3:30 PM that day, displayed a note and got away with an undetermined amount of money.
A lookout was broadcast, and a Frederick Police Officer spotted the vehicle along West 7th Street near Route 15. When police tried to stop it, the driver fled. Sheriff's Deputies, State Troopers and the Maryland State Police helicopter joined in the pursuit, which ran through parts of Frederick city and the county. The chase was discontinued because it was rush hour, and police agencies felt it could make it too dangerous for drivers and pedestrians. There were no injuries as a result of the pursuit or the robbery.
The suspect vehicle was located behind a business in the 100 block of South Market Street.
Frederick Police identified Vanwinkle as the suspect, and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Vanwinkle was nabbed by personnel from the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, which received information that he was in South Carolina.
