Damage estimates up to $100,000.
State fire officials are seeking information about 19 suspicious fires that have caused up to $100,000 damage in Washington County. "They can actually contact our Hagerstown Regional Office by calling 301-766-3888, or they can contact our Arson Hotline, 24 hours a day, at 1-800-492-7529," said Jason Mowbray, Deputy Chief State Fire Marshal.
The fires began on March 17, 2013. The incidents occurred in rural areas of Williamsport, Boonsboro, Hagerstown, Funkstown, Keedysville and Smithsburg, with 7 vehicles being destroyed, mailboxes, a garage and a barn. "Certainly, these are very unusual cases. Fortunately, it's not common in Western Maryland. We are blessed with not having a lot of these random, sporadic fires that are persistent and voluminous, as what this is," continued Mowbray.
The latest fires occurred Wednesday night, just after 10:30 p.m. through 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
