Rev. Derek Shackelford has thrown his hat in the ring to run for a seat on the Frederick City Board of Alderman. The assistant basketball coach for Frederick Community College says he brings lots of experience to the table, which includes 20 years of community service and ministering.
"And in those various capacities of serving, it has given me the opportunity to make tough and bold decisions. It has also granted me the opportunity to work across the aisle, to participate in team work, which allows us to build bridges," said Shackelford.
Several other current members on the board have announced they will run for a second term, including Michael O'Connor and Kelly Russell.
This year's city primary elections will be September 10th, and the general election is November 5th.
Shackelford made his announcement official Friday evening during a campaign kickoff at the Bernard Brown Community Center.
