The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says an autopsy shows that the newborn found in a pond in Sterling appeared to be full term. Deputies said Monday that the medical examiner reported that the delivery was probably a home birth and it was not clear if the female infant survived the birth.
Authorities say the body apparently was in the pond for a short time.
The body of the infant was found shortly before noon Sunday by a passer-by in a manmade pond near Awsley Court. Deputies say they are concerned for the mother's well-being, because she might need medical attention.
