A brush fire burned one to three acres Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area along Greensburg Road north of Smithsburg, officials said.
It is believed that the blaze in the area of 12943 Greensburg Road might have been started by someone burning in the area, said Danny Gibson of the Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co.
A passer-by noticed the fire and authorities were notified at 2:22 p.m., Gibson said. Gibson said it took about two hours for firefighters to bring the fire under control.
About 25 firefighters responded to the scene, Gibson said.
