Developers of the property say that a new super Wal-Mart could be the solution to redeveloping the Golden Mile.
Big plans are in the works for the vacant Frederick Towne Mall property that has been called an "eye-sore" by many local residents. Developers of the property say that a new super Wal-Mart could be the solution to redeveloping the Golden Mile. Mayor Randy McClement said many people have questioned the location but he feels like the store will be a success.
"One of the reasons they liked the location is because it put it on the far western end of the city so it'll draw from people between Hagerstown and the city of Frederick. That's a good thing for our city because now we're drawing people from outside the city to our town and once they come in there's other shops around that they can shop at as well and things to do and visit as well. So that's the idea, to get people in here," said Mayor McClement.
Wal-Mart representatives met with the Board of Aldermen on Wednesday to discuss details and what steps need to be taken to get the potential store up and running.
