State Police in Hagerstown says Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed Tuesday evening at Exit 32, near Route 40 and the Dual Highway, for a serious motor vehicle crash.
Scanner reports say one person was killed and several others were seriously injured. They were taken to area hospitals.
The CHART Website says three vehicles were involved.
Troopers say traffic is being diverted onto Eastbound Route 40 toward Frederick.
Westbound I-70 in that area remains open, according to CHART.
Authorities at the Hagerstown Barrack, along with fire and rescue personnel, including some from Frederick County, were dispatched to the scene.
State Police say the roadway is expected to be closed for several hours while the crash is under investigation. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
