A local business owner is happy about the thought of a new Wal-Mart being proposed for the Frederick Towne Mall property. Justin Kiska, the president and managing director of the Way Off Broadway Dinner Theater said a lot of people are asking, why not bring in a Trader Joe's, a Christmas tree shop or a Dick's Sporting Goods. " I think those people who would like to see these other stores come in will be very happy if that a Wal-Mart comes to the Golden Mile, help to revitalize it and get the Mile thriving again, they might see these other stores coming in," said Kiska. "Existing business owners have nothing to fear. There is no question that increased customer traffic along the Golden Mile will benefit every plaza," Kiska continued.
Currently, the property is zoned for mixed use. Developers want to have that changed for general commercial use. The Frederick Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing to address zoning changes June 5th.
