A unique baseball team will be coming to Jefferson County this summer. The Charles Town Cannons are a member of the Valley Baseball League that draws the best amaeteur baseball talent from across the country.
Each player is between their freshman and junior year of college and is looking to make it to the pros.
Brett Fuller, Owner and President of the team, says they have 28 talented players who are all very serious about the game.
"With these young guys, they're hoping to have that opportunity to be drafted so that they can have professional sports as their job and not have to go out into the real world. They're laying everything out on the line that's why this baseball is so much fun to watch because they're just playing for that opportuinity," said Fuller.
He said these players are one step from being drafted into the major leagues and make up a great team to come out and watch at Jefferson High School's 'Sager Field.'
"The season actually will kick off May 31st, and if all things go well the Charles Town Cannons will be playing up to the last day of the season which will be August 10th," said Fuller.
The team will be looking for host families to share their home with the players during thier two month season. He said the players would not need transportation to-and-from their practices or games.
