A Hagerstown man is in critical condition, at Shock Trauma, in Baltimore, after he fell onto a concrete walkway after being punched last week during a Baltimore Orioles Baseball Game, at Camden Yards.
Matthew Fortese, 25, got up and climbed a wall behind him to confront a man who threw beer on him and his date, during the May 29th game, authorities said. As Fortese was talking to Michael Bell, the man whom police have charged in the incident, Bell's friend, Gregory Fleischman, who is also facing assault offenses, allegedly punched Fortese on the side of the head, with a blow so hard, it caused him to fall over a railing and onto a concrete walkway below.
Witnesses say Fortese was wearing a New York Yankees cap during the game and that's what sparked the incident.
A website has been created to raise money for Fortese. It's www.mattfortese.com .
"Matt is the kind of guy who enjoys life. He is definitely a sports fanatic. He always had a smile on his face and was laughing," said Jeff Minnichbach, a neighbor. "I was very shocked to learn that it was over something as dumb as wearing a different team's hat," continued Minnichbach.
