Whitetail Resort has recently chosen nine outstanding candidates to receive the 11th annual Whitetail Resort Employee Scholarship, promoting higher education. Eight candidates received scholarships of $500 each, and one candidate received the third annual Whitetail Resort - Oscar Weller Memorial Employee Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Candidates of the scholarship are students who were employees in good standing for the 2012-2013 season at Whitetail Resort. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, and Whitetail’s own STEEP values which stand for Safety, Teamwork, Efficiency, Enthusiasm, and Professionalism. Each applicant must also maintain an appropriate grade level, participate in extracurricular activities, and provide adequate references.
This year’s list of recipients includes six local high school students. These seniors are: Jennifer Schofield and Brianne Shaefer of James Buchanan High School, Lexie Holtzman of Clear Spring High School, Jessica Thwaite of North Hagerstown High School, and Benjamin Reinert of Shalom Christian Academy. Each recipient was awarded the $500 scholarship at their respective high school award ceremonies.
Three local college students were also awarded the scholarship by Whitetail Resort. These students include: Hannah Brant of Shippensburg University, Annetta Hartman of PA Virtual Charter School, and Michelle Zimmerman of Elizabethtown College.
This year’s recipient of the $1,000 Whitetail Resort-Oscar Weller Memorial Employee Scholarship is Justine Staniszewski of James Buchanan High School. This scholarship is in honor of Oscar Weller, a valued employee who worked at Whitetail Resort for six years in the snowmaking department and Golf Operations. It recognizes his commitment to the organization, his dedication to his community, and thirst for knowledge in all that he pursued.
The funding for the Whitetail Resort Employee Scholarship to promote higher education is made possible by contributions to the scholarship donation boxes at Whitetail Resort’s complimentary ski and board check and the revenue from employee soda machines around the resort.
"Whitetail Resort is extremely proud to have such dedicated and motivated employees, said Katrina Gayman, Director of Marketing and Sales. "It is our great pleasure to offer each of them this opportunity to further their education and training on behalf of our organization."
