Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to participate in the Historical Society of Frederick County’s second annual Byerly-Rothwell Photography Contest. The contest seeks to encourage individuals to discover local history through the camera’s lens. Possible subjects include, but are not limited to, historic structures, historical objects, places of historical significance, important events, notable individuals, and traditional activities. Cash prizes of up to $150 are awarded to the top three photos in four divisions: Adult-Amateur, Adult-Professional, Student-Primary, and Student-Secondary. A prize for best in show is also awarded to the top overall entry. Photographs entered in the contest will be on display at the Museum of Frederick County History in late summer. The contest is open to those who live or attend school in Frederick County. Each contestant may enter up to three photographs. Deadline for entries is July 31st 2013. The Frederick County Health Department announces their schedule for the 2013 Spring and Fall Animal Rabies Vaccination Clinics:

The Monocacy National Battlefield is opening a new Track Trail at Worthington Farm. This will provide a new opportunity for kids and their families to visit the park and explore nature. The family friendly trail, one of many the Foundation has supported through its Kids in Parks program, is intended to get kids unplugged, outdoors, and reconnected with nature for their health and the health of the parks. The park has designated the Worthington Farm Loop Trail as its Track Trail, as well as four brochures for kids to learn more about different aspects of nature during the hike. It is 1.5 miles in length and features mostly flat hiking that takes visitors down to and along the Monocacy River. The World Premiere of Copperhead, filmmaker Ron Maxwell’s latest movie, will take place at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg. Maxwell wrote and directed Gettysburg and Gods and Generals and has selected the Journey Through Hallowed Grounds Partnership as the beneficiary of this premiere. The VIP reception begins at 5pm and the movie starts at 6:30pm. There will also be a question and answer session with Maxwell following the screening.
