The victim's name has not been released.
Maryland State Police, in Frederick, have not released the name of the victim who was killed Friday morning during a two vehicle collision on Route 15 at Monocacy Blvd. It involved a passenger car and a motorcycle, authorities said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Amy Sue Harrison, of Thurmont, was making a left turn across the northbound lanes of Route 15, to continue eastbound on Monocacy Blvd. That's when a 2001 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle was traveling northbound on Route 15, approaching the intersection of Monocacy Blvd. Harrison did not see the bike and began to cross the northbound lanes, police said. The driver of the Suzuki saw the Volkswagen crossing the roadway and suddenly applied the rear brakes, but that caused the motorcycle to begin skidding, and the driver was not able to stop before striking the passenger side of the Volkswagen, said authorities.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. Harrison was transported by ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons. The investigation is continuing.
