The baseball program will hopefully attract more male students.
Hood College in Frederick is adding inter-collegiate baseball to their athletic department.
The announcement was made this afternoon.
Hood College Athletic Director, Tom Dickman, hopes this move will attract more male students to Hood's campus.
"Hood for 100 years was an all women's college and we still have quite a few more women's sports than men's sports. So this gives us an opportunity to bring another men's sport on campus and attract some more male students," Dickman said.
The recruitment of baseball players could begin soon.
"Once we have a coach on board they will start to recruit. They can recruit players from anywhere they want to but most of our students come from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia," Dickman added.
Hood's baseball program should be up and running by the 2014-2015 school year.
Other men's sports at Hood College include basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track and field.
Hood College was an all-women's school until 1971.
