She said it took several attempts, but Christina Denny said it paid off when she was crowned Miss Maryland on June 25, 2013. "This is actually my 4th time competing for Miss Maryland. So, it's been a long time coming. I stuck to it and persevered and finally got the title," said Denny. She is now preparing for Miss America. "Im doing some interview preparations and working out over at Dynamic Fitness, in Frederick, and most importantly, I am getting my wardrobe together," she continued.
Denny's charity of choice, "Special Deeds for Special Needs," stems from her passion for teaching at Echelon, doing volunteer work and working one on one with individual students as an applied behavioral analysis therapist. "Seeing my students everyday, they're just incredible. They can make such a difference in this world. And if we focus more on our special needs population, which sometimes doesn't happen too much in our society, then I really think we could help progress them to be mainstreamed, and working for corporate America, and giving back to our community."
Denny began participating in local pageants while studying hearing and speech sciences. As she became more involved, she said, she appreciated the Miss America program even more.
