Powerball officials have raised the jackpot for Wednesday's drawing. "There was no winner Saturday night, so the amount will be $400 million dollars for Wednesday's drawing," said Gail Pellovitz, Maryland Lottery spokeswoman.
That's a lot of money for one lucky winner. "The cash option is $230.3 million dollars before taxes, so you're still getting a lot of money," Pellovitz continued.
The largest multi-state jackpot in U.S. history was the jackpot last May, when it produced three winning tickets. "One was claimed by three Maryland Public School employees, who took home a porition of the record-breaking prize. Seems like in the past year we've had a lot of Western Maryland winners, especially in Frederick County. We had a $26 mega millions winner in February, from Mt. Airy. We hope the luck continues," she said.
Wednesday's drawing will take place at 11:22 p.m.
