One person injured, taken to FMH.
Fire fighters from across the region responded to an apartment fire in Frederick Monday afternoon. Doug Brown, Community Services Liaison for County Fire and Rescue Services, says units were called at around 2:48 PM at 816 Blakely Court in the Crystal Park Apartments for an apartment fire.
Units arriving on the scene saw fire in a second-story apartment and called for a second alarm, he says. Personnel got to work putting out the flames, but the fire climbed to the third story and the roof area. "At that point a third-alarm was called," Brown says. "They were extensively able to make a knock, or the put the fire out, by using our aerial devices from above the fire to put it out at that point."
Brown says there was a report of one person injured. Scanner reports indicated one individual suffered an injury to the hand, and was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment. Brown says he doesn't know if the injured person lived in the apartment that caught fire.
"It's a three-story building. The most significant damage at this time is to the third floor apartment, and then the second floor and so on," says Brown. "It's becomes less severe as you get further down to the ground at this point."
The County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause, origin and damage estimate from the fire.
Waterford Drive, which leads to the Crystal Park Apartments, was closed to traffic during the fire to allow emergency vehicles to get to the scene.
