For children 6 months through 17 years of age.
The Frederick County Health Department is offering free flu vaccine for children 6 months through 17 years of age. This is made possible through a grant from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. FCHD will not have flu vaccine available this year for adults 18 years of age and older. "We stopped that a couple of years ago because we saw that our attendance had decreased significantly," said Darlene Armacost, Program Manager for Communicable Diseases and Preparedness, FCHD. "We did a survey in the community and found that it is so readily available, especially from drug stores, private physicians and other grocery stores offer flu vaccine," continued Armacost. Adults are advised to contact their healthcare provider.
Three flu vaccination clinics are scheduled and they will be held at FCHD, 350 Montevue Lane, Frederick, MD. Both injectable "flu shot" and intranasal FluMist will be available. The clinics will be held on:
Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Tuesday, October 22, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
An appointment is required to receive a flu vaccine. There are two ways to make an appointment: online at www.frederickcountymd.gov/flu or by phone at 1-877-419-3409.
