The cause remains under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $250,000 from a house fire in Brunswick Sunday afternoon.
Fire fighters were dispatched to 24 Jeffrey Lane at around 5:00 PM. "Our first unit arrived on the scene and could see fire from the rear of the single family home, that was extending at that point up from the first floor, past the second floor and into the attic," says Doug Brown, Community Liaison Services with the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services Division.
A rapid intervention team was dispatched to help put out the flames. Brown says 40 fire fighters at the scene had the flames knocked down within a half hour. They continued to check for hot spots after that.
"The fire investigator from the Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office did respond to the scene, and conducted the origin and cause investigation into the fire," says Brown. "But at this time the fire remains under investigation."
The fire did cause extensive damage to the home, according to a news release from the Division of Fire and Rescue Services, but no one was hurt.
The Red Cross is assisting the residents who were displaced by the fire.
On Monday afternoon, Brown says fire fighters returned to the neighborhood to offer free smoke alarms and replacement batteries, along with safety information to residents. They did the same thing last week following a fire at the Crystal Park Apartments in Frederick.
