The Saturday, October 5th Candlelight Service honoring the nation's fallen fire fighters will go on despite the federal government shutdown. But the time has changed. It will be held at 4:00 PM at the Daughters of Charity Basilica in Emmitsburg.
The Sunday National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial will begin at 10:00 AM, but it will be held at the PNC Sports Arena at the Mount Saint Mary's University campus. 81 fire fighters will be honored this year.
Both events are usually held at the National Fire Academy facility on South Seton Avenue in Emmitsburg. But due to the government shutdown, that complex is closed.
The Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services says many fire halls around the county may be sounding their sirens on Sunday at 12:00 noon. It will be in memory of the nation's fallen fire fighters. DFRS says citizens do not need to panic if they hear sirens in their communities.
