From 7 to 9:30 p.m., visitors can take part in an entertaining and interpretative program on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013. Spirit guides will begin tours at the Visitors Center in the Manor Area of Cunningham Falls State Park and take a night hike to the historic Catoctin Iron Furnace. While walking along the Catoctin Iron Furnace Trail, visitors should expect to stop frequently to hear local stories from costumed characters as they recall lore about the furnace and the area.
Everyone will walk back to the Visitors Center for apple cider and s'mores by a campfire.
Park officials remind visitors to wear warm clothing and shoes, which are appropriate for hiking, and to bring a flashlight. This 30-minute hike may not be appropriate for very young children. Tickets are only sold in advance and are $5 per adult (ages 12 and older), $3 per child (ages 7 to 12) and children younger than 6 years old receive free tickets. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill State Parks. Call 301-271-3676 or stop by the Visitors Center in the Manor Area to reserve a time slot and purchase tickets.
