Employees and customers at Wegmans and Marshalls, on Wormans Mill Road in Frederick, had to be evacuated Wednesday night after several employees started to feel sick from an odor.
Fire and Rescue officials responded shortly after 7:00 p.m. to investigate. The Lieutenant on the first arriving unit reported a bleach like odor in the store and discovered that 2 employees were experiencing flu like symptoms, authorities said in a press release. A HAZMAT team was brought in, but were unable to locate the source of the odor.
Customers and employees were allowed to return approximately one and one half hours later, said officials. The 2 employees who were feeling sick recovered after being removed to fresh air. Both refused further treatment or transport to an area hospital, the release stated.
The incident resulted in personnel evacuating approximately 120 customers and employees from Wegmans and the adjoining store, Marshalls.
