He will be campaigning from District 3A.
Frederick County Commissioners' Vice President Paul Smith is seeking a state office. On Monday, he announced that he's running for the House of Delegates from District 3A.
"Area 3A is primarily the City of Frederick, Spring Ridge and Clover, a few other little areas," he says. "I really think I can help."
Smith is running as a Republican. Incumbent Delegates Galen Clagett (D) and Patrick Hogan (R) are not seeking re-election.
Smith also says he will be emphasizing taxes in his campaign. "We have an ongoing need to be very efficient in our use of taxpayer funds," he says. "We have been raising taxes, and that has got to stop. Everybody recognizes that."
There's going to have to be trimming of expenditures, he says.
Smith served on the Frederick Board of Aldermen from 2007-09, and was elected County Commissioner in 2010.
