The Mount says it's at the coach's request.
The head coach of the Mount Saint Mary's Men's Basketball program has been placed on paid administrative leave. Coach Robert Burke asked to be placed on leave following a conversations with Mount officials on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the school. It doesn't say why Coach Burke made the request.
Assistant Coach Matt Henry has taken over as acting head coach.
"Decisions like these are never easy, and certainly more difficult while our season is in progress," says Lynne Robinson, the Mount's Director of Athletics, in a statement. "We wish Coach Burke well and we are hopeful he is able to resolve these matters quickly."
Burke was named head coach at Mount Saint Mary's University in May, 2010. He has amassed at 17-40 overall record.
Henry is in his second year as an assistant coach at the Mount after spending six seasons as a member of the coaching staff at Georgetown University. "Matt knows our players and the Mount, and he has our full support," says Robinson.
