Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick County will be participating on Friday in a statewide commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the first confirmed COVID-19 death in Maryland. County Executive Jan Gardner says Winchester Hall will be lit in amber, as will the ROOT building and the Treasury and Planning and Permitting Building on North Market Street.

She’s asking all residents to take a moment to pause and reflect with local leaders, and remember the many people who lost their lives to the coronavirus. “This week, I encourage all Frederick County residents to join us to remember the many people we’ve lost since the onset of the COVID-19 health crisis,”: Gardner said in a statement. “Let us also take the opportunity to show our gratitude for the health care workers, first responders and all those working on the frontlines throughout this pandemic who, at their own personal risk, have worked tirelessly for many months to save lives and make us safer.”

Governor Larry Hogan has declared Friday a day of remembrance for the more than 7,700 Marylanders who died from COVID-19 during this pandemic. As of Wednesday, Frederick County lost 272 residents from this virus.
