AAA Says Average Gasoline Price In The Nation Hits $3 Per Gallon

It’s the first time this has happened in over four years.

Washington DC (KM) As the nation gets ready for another travel period later this month, . AAA says nationally, the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular gasoline stands at $3.00 per gallon. Spokeswoman Ragina Ali says the last time that happened was on May 12th, 2021.

The current average of  $3.00 per gallon is down by seven cents compared to last year; a three-cent decline from a month ago; and a five-cent  drop from the same time last year.

Ali says currently in Maryland, the average price $2.99 per gallon. In Frederick, it’s $2.93 cents per gallon. “So those are so about six or seven cents less then what we were paying in Frederick this time last year,” she says.

And she says the average price of gasoline at $3.00 per gallons isn’t typical throughout the country. “More than 31 states, including, Maryland and Virginia, are under that $.3.00 a gallon mark,” she says.

In Maryland AAA numbers show the average prices hovering at about $3.00 per gallon, and a few cents under.

Ali says a number of factors play into the price of gallon of gas such as the cost of crude oil,  and the impact of bad weather on refinery operations.

While AAA doesn’t predict the coast of a gasoline, Ali says barring a any unforeseen weather or geopolitical events, gasoline prices should remain stable through later this month.
