One nonprofit is receiving $300,000 to provide transportation.

Frederick, Md. (NS) – An initiative called American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Nonprofit Community Health and Recovery Grants, or ANCHR for short, was introduced Thursday by Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner.

$1 million of federal funds have been set aside to support organizations that address challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Awardees may use ANCHR grant funds to help them recover from revenue gaps or increased expenses such as a drop in donations or higher demand for service or to help face the challenges of covering payroll, rent, or other operating costs,” said Gardner.

She added that programs which address health, children and families, economic recovery, seniors, and transportation have been prioritized.

“Their physical location or address must be in Frederick County and at least 51% of the people served should be Frederick County residents. Their annual operating budget must be $500,000 or less. So again, we’re trying to target smaller nonprofits,” Gardner explained.

She said grant amounts will range between $5,000 and $50,000.

The county has created a website, FrederickCountyMD.gov/ANCHR, to help organizations see if they are eligible.

Gardner also made an announcement about a larger grant to a newer nonprofit to help with public transportation.

She said public transportation is limited by route locations and operating hours, so a local nonprofit will receive funds to try to fill those gaps.

“That organization is called Good Works Frederick, and while Good Works is new, its founder is a familiar face in our local nonprofit world, and that’s Ed Hinde. Good Works Frederick is introducing a volunteer-based ride-sharing network to connect people to the services they need,” said Gardner.

She announced that Good Works Frederick will receive $300,000 of Frederick County’s American Rescue Plan Act funding to help fulfill the transportation needs in the county.
