If you’ve spent any time around Frederick County sports, chances are you’ve heard the name Steve Nibbs—and probably heard his voice, too.
Nibbs is a Frederick, MD legend with a 45-year run in education and coaching, best known for his decades at Governor Thomas Johnson High School, where he wore just about every hat imaginable, including long-time Athletic Director. Along the way, he helped shape generations of student-athletes and built a culture of pride in Patriots athletics.
One of his signature moments came in 1994, when he led the TJ softball team to a Class 3A state championship—a highlight in a career full of them.
Retirement didn’t slow him down one bit. Nibbs simply swapped the sidelines for the booth and became a trusted play-by-play voice for local sports on 930 WFMD. From Friday night lights to high school football deep dives, he’s continued to be a familiar and respected presence in Frederick sports media through 2024 and beyond.
Whether mentoring student-athletes, calling big games, or supporting community sports, Steve Nibbs has spent nearly half a century giving Frederick County his time, energy, and unmistakable passion for the game—and he’s still not done yet. 🏆🎙️
