SHIP Provides Assistance And Support For Homeless Students In Frederick County

There are over 900 homeless students in FCPS.

Frederick, Md. (NS) – The Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership in Frederick County (SHIP), is looking for donations to help local homeless youth.

Melissa Muntz, the Executive Director of SHIP, said there is a real need.

“There are over 900 students in Frederick County Public Schools experiencing homelessness and that statistic is as recent as July of 2022. It’s very important that we help these students to get out of homelessness prior to reaching adulthood,” said Muntz.

SHIP’s mission is to reduce barriers to attaining education for homeless students by connecting them to a community, resources, and programming. Muntz said a student is far more likely to remain homeless as an adult if they do not graduate high school.

“To learn more about SHIP of Frederick County, or to make a donation, you can visit SHIPFrederick.com,” she added.

Donations are tax deductible, and will be used to provide new clothing, counseling services, activities, and emergency shelter for local homeless youth.
