Big Night For Alsobrooks, Hogan

Both won their respective party primaries.Frederick, Md (KM) In Tuesday’s Maryland Primary contest, Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks won the Maryland Democratic Primary for the US Senate. She defeated Sixth District Representative David Trone with more than 53 percent of the vote to Trone’s 42 percent. . .In the Republican Primary, former Governor Larry Hogan defeated six other candidates by 61-percent of the vote. :”You know, we’ve always been an underdog. They’ve always counted us out. But every single time, together, we have beaten the odds,” Hogan said in a speech to his supporters.He also said many Americans believe that Washington is “completely dysfunctional” and the political system is “fundamentally broken.” “The voices of the exhausted majority are often ignored in deference to the demands of the loudest and angriest few who seem hell bent on tearing America  apart. Enough is enough,” Hogan said to the applause of his supporters.Because reproductive rights are expected to be a big issue in this year’s election, Hogan made this promise. “To the women of Maryland, you have my word that I will continue to protect your right to make your own reproductive health decisions  just like I did for eight years when I had the honor of serving as your governor,” he said.The winner of the Senate race will replace incumbent Democrat Ben Cardin who is retiring.In the 6th District Congressional Race, April McClain–Delaney took the Democratic Primary with 39 percent of the vote.. She is the wife of former 6th District Congressman John Delaney.   Former Delegate Neil Parrott won the Republican Primary with more than 47 percent of the vote.In the West Virginia Primary, Republican voters picked Patrick Morrisey as their candidate for Governor. He will face Democrat Steve Williams in the General Election.For US Senate for the Mountain State, Republican Jim Justice will face Democrat Glenn Elliot .The next contest for all for  these candidates is the General Election on November 5th.By Kevin McManus
