Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy who shot an individual Monday night in Frederick city. He is Corporal Gregory Morton, a 14-year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office. Corporal Morton has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into this incident which is in accordance with agency policy.
The Sheriff’s Office says Morton shot the individual in the parking lot of the Old Towne Tavern in the 300 block of North Market Street. Authorities say he confronted that individual who was having a mental health crisis and had a knife. That person was shot once after refusing numerous commands to drop the weapon.. authorities say.
The victim was flown to a trauma center.
Corporal Morton was not hurt in the incident, which is being investigated by Frederick Police.
