Certified results confirm mayoral renomination and set the stage for competitive council contests in November.
Frederick, MD (JK) –The Frederick City Democratic primary election results have been certified, confirming Mayor Michael O’Connor’s renomination. O’Connor secured just over 56 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Ron Beattie, who finished with about 43 percent.
In the City Council at-large race, newcomer Libby Taylor led the field, while incumbent Derrick Shackelford claimed the second spot, guaranteeing both a place on the November ballot. District contests saw closer margins, including in District Three, where Peter Brehm narrowly defeated David Schmidt, District Four saw Scott Lasher edging out Fredy Garcia, and in District 5 where Sarah Irani rode a very thin margin to victory over Ryan Trout.
The results were finalized after officials counted provisional and mail-in ballots, which largely matched election night tallies. With the Democratic primary settled, attention now turns to the general election, scheduled for November 4, with early voting beginning in late October.
