Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick man was sentenced on Tuesday for an explosives offense.. The State’s Attorney’s Office says John Timothy Lightfield, 20, was given three years in prison for one count of possession of explosive material with the intent to create a destructive device, and one count of reckless endangerment, He pleaded guilty to both charges on August 11th of this year.
After he’s released from prison, Lightfield will serve five years of supervised probation, and must not return to his residence which was subject to a search warrant.
Prosecutors say on April 28th, 2025, the State Fire Marshal’s Office Bomb Squad with assistance from the Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, executed that search and seizure warrant at Lightfield’s home on Willow Avenue in Frederick. Authorities say they found an extensive amount of tools and materials consistent with the manufacture of explosives; and that included home explosive powder. .
Lightfield told police he had previously set off two of his home-made devices and was working on the efficiency of his explosive devices.
