Annapolis, MD (JK) – Maryland is providing $164 million in emergency funding to help hospitals manage a surge in respiratory illnesses, including flu, RSV, and COVID-19.
Governor Wes Moore announced the funding as hospitals across the state see higher-than-normal patient volumes. The money will go to 25 hospitals and help cover staffing needs and other operational costs tied to the increase in patients.
State health officials report thousands of hospitalizations so far this season, with flu cases leading the surge.
The funding is part of a broader effort to protect public health and ensure continued access to vaccines. Maryland is also expanding access to free flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines for uninsured and underinsured adults through local health departments.
Health officials say vaccinations remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious illness and reduce hospital strain. Residents are encouraged to talk with their healthcare providers and stay up to date on recommended vaccines.
