Frederick, Md. (DG) – A suspicious scene outside a burning townhome early Friday morning has led to an arson arrest in Frederick County.
Deputies were called to the 5800 block of Rosebay Court around 1:20 a.m. for a reported fire. Fire personnel told authorities they saw a man playing a guitar outside the residence as flames spread, before he ran away.
A short time later, deputies located a man matching the description at the Wawa on Ballenger Creek Pike. He was initially uncooperative but was detained as investigators worked to determine what happened.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire had been intentionally set to the suspect’s own townhome. Because the home was attached to other occupied residences, officials say the blaze posed a significant threat to neighboring families.
Twenty-eight-year-old Malcolm Brown was arrested and taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center. He is charged with first- and second-degree arson, reckless endangerment, and other related offenses.
