Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s help after two marked cruisers were damaged during a street takeover in Silver Spring early Sunday.
Officers were alerted around 12:39 a.m. to a large group of vehicles involved in takeover activity that began in Prince George’s County and moved into the Silver Spring business district. Police closed several intersections, but the group gathered at East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue, where drivers blocked traffic and performed donuts.
Several people stood in the roadway, preventing officers from entering the intersection.
Two cruisers were vandalized during the incident, including one that was occupied when its rear window and windshield were smashed. No officers were hurt.
Maryland State Police assisted in clearing the scene. Authorities say three handguns were recovered earlier in related traffic stops.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County. Dash Cam video of the incident can be seen here.
