Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 87-year-old Robert Fuller Jr. at a Potomac senior living facility.
Montgomery County Police report that Maurquise Emillo James, an employee at Cogir Potomac Senior Living, has been charged with first-degree murder. Fuller was found unresponsive in his apartment on February 14 and later pronounced dead.
During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance video from the facility. The footage showed a person wearing a mask walking toward a side door of the building. The suspect opened the door and entered the building, which led to a stairwell. A short time later, the same person was seen leaving through that door and running down the sidewalk. Detectives later determined the exterior door had been propped open and the alarm deactivated.
Police determined the victim suffered a contact gunshot wound, and surveillance footage, public tips, and ballistic evidence helped identify James. The same gun was also linked to a separate shooting involving a Maryland State Police trooper, who was not seriously injured.
James was arrested in Rockville and remains in custody pending a bond hearing.
