Hagerstown, MD (JK) – A Washington County jury has convicted 40‑year‑old Daniel Matthew Anderson on all charges tied to the June 2025 shooting of a Hagerstown Police Department officer, according to law enforcement and court reports.
Anderson was found guilty in the ambush shooting of Officer Langley Dean, a 19‑year veteran of the department, who was hit at close range with a 20‑gauge shotgun while responding to a domestic violence call at a home where Anderson had barricaded himself.
Dean survived but suffered serious injuries, including permanent disfigurement to his right arm and bird‑shot pellets remaining in his face, chest and head. Hospital staff and prosecutors highlighted that rapid action by other officers and emergency personnel likely saved his life.
Law enforcement officials and community members rallied behind Dean and the department throughout the investigation and trial, expressing appreciation for widespread support. Sentencing for Anderson has been scheduled for a later date.
