Frederick, Md. (DG) -A late-night traffic stop on Interstate 70 near New Market led to a major drug and weapons arrest in Frederick County. Just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, a deputy with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a westbound Acura for an equipment violation and failing to maintain its lane. The driver, 35-year-old John Tyrell Gross Jr. of Baltimore, immediately drew suspicion when deputies spotted what appeared to be a disguised soda can, a common tool used to conceal narcotics.
A K-9 unit responded and positively alerted to the presence of drugs. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered suspected fentanyl, cocaine, multiple pills believed to be controlled substances, packaging materials, and a digital scale. Authorities also discovered a stolen loaded handgun.
Investigators confirmed that Gross is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition because of prior convictions. He was arrested and taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he now faces multiple drug and weapons charges.
