Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – Montgomery County Police have removed five illegally possessed firearms from the streets of Silver Spring over the past four days, officials report.
Officers in the department’s 3rd District say the seizures came during multiple law enforcement actions aimed at preventing shootings and reducing violent crime.
In one incident, a juvenile was arrested after a foot chase during which the suspect threw a loaded handgun. During another stop, a driver was found carrying a handgun with an extended magazine concealed in their waistband.
Police also confiscated a handgun along with cocaine during a traffic stop after observing what they described as a suspected drug deal. In a separate stop, two people were arrested after each was found with a handgun, including one equipped with a drum magazine.
Authorities say these recent actions reflect ongoing efforts to keep illegal guns off the streets in Silver Spring.
