Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Driver Who Died In Fiery Crash Saturday Morning

He was a Frederick resident.

Frederick, Md. (KM) – The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver killed in a fiery crash last Saturday morning in the 9600 block of Gas House Pike. He’s Michael Thomas Smith, 31, of Frederick.

Authorities say Smith was the operator of a Chrysler 200 which was traveling at a high rate of speed along Gas House Pike. The vehicle went off the right of the road, struck a tree and caught fire. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office says fire destroyed all evidence of the driver’s identity, and investigators worked as  quickly as possible to  identify the victim
