Two Maryland State Troopers Struck By Impaired Driver From Frederick

The incident happened on I-270 in Montgomery County.

Rockville, Md. (NS) – A suspected impaired driver from Frederick struck two Maryland State Troopers on I-270 on Thursday in Montgomery County.

At around 6:15 p.m., Kevin Junghans, 59, of Frederick was driving a Chevy Impala on southbound I-270 in a manner that caused several motorists to call 9-1-1 and report an impaired driver on the roadway.

Troopers from the Rockville Barrack responded to the area of I-270 and Montrose Road where they parked on the left shoulder with their emergency lights on to wait for Junghans.

Shortly after parking, the two Troopers’ vehicles were struck by Junghans.

Investigators say drug impairment was a contributing factor in the crash.

All three were taken to Suburban Hospital for their injuries.

The two Troopers were later released.

Police say charges are pending against Junghans pending the outcome of the investigation.
