Pa. State Police Investigating Homicide In Franklin County

A woman was found dead; the suspect fatally shot by police in Va.

Chambersburg, Pa. (KM) Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg are investigating a homicide in Franklin County.

On Wednesday, June 1st, just after 6:00 PM,  troopers were dispatched to a residence in Lugen Township in the 8900 block of McClay Mill Road to assist another law enforcement agency with an investigation. When they arrived, authorities tried to make contact with a woman who lived at a residence on the property, and had not been seen or heard from for several days.

They searched the property and found the woman deceased. She’s identified as Kyline C. Avery, 41, of Newburg who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A homicide investigation was begun by  Troop H of the Pennsylvania State Police, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office and the District Attorney.

Through their investigation, Pennsylvania State Police say they identified the suspect as Derrick Glen Avery, 42, also of Newburg. Authorities say Derrick Avery was involved in a shooting incident in Prince George County,  Virginia on June 1st, 2022, prior to the discovery of Kyline Avery. Derrick Avery died from an officer-involved shooting.

Virginia State Police are investigating that incident.

Pennsylvania State Police say this is an isolated incident and there no threat to the public.
