Maryland State Police Trooper shot while apprehending suspect
Smithsburg, Md. (DG) – Three people were killed, and four injured in a mass shooting in Smithsburg at the Columbia Machine manufacturing plant Thursday afternoon.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the building at approximately 2:30 PM in the 12900 block of Bikle Road in Smithsburg for reports of a shooting.
According to authorities three people were found dead in the building.
A short time later the suspect was involved in a shooting incident with Maryland State Police on Mapleville Road, where a trooper was shot The trooper’s injuries are non-life threatening.
Police say the suspect is no longer a threat to the community.
