The memorial remembers those who died from the pandemic and those who worked to help others.
Frederick, Md. (NS/DG) – On Saturday morning at Utica park in Frederick County, a Memorial remembering those who died in the county due to COVID-19 was unveiled.
Elected officials, including County Executive Jan Gardner and US Senator Chris Van Hollen were in attendance. Gardner said the virus has made an impact.
“In Frederick County alone, there have been over 51,000 confrimed cases of COVID, and that number is likely higher because in recent months we’ve had most people testing with home tests and they aren’t reported, included in our numbers. We know there are many people in our community who still struggle with the long term effects of having COVID,” said Gardner.
During the ceremony, Senator Van Hollen remembered those who died, and the efforts of health care professionals battling COVID-19.
“It is fitting that we set aside this place to remember them, and to reflect on those who are still suffering from COVID, and to express our gratitude to all the front line health care workers and all the other front line workers who put themselves at risk to help save others,” said Van Hollen.
526 County residents have died due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began in 2020.
